Amy Downing
Amy grew up in Joplin. At age 10, her family moved to Stillwell, Kansas, where she spent the rest of her elementary middle, and high school years. She has one older brother and a younger brother. She attended and graduated from Blue Valley High School in Stanley, Kansas, then went on to attend Kansas City Kansas Community College where she spent a year and a half on a full vocal music scholarship.She met her husband in February 2002 on one of her many trips to Nashville, Tennessee where she was pursuing her music career. She would soon marry Captain Will Downing and has been happily married for 14 ½ years.
Amy faithfully supported the decision to become a military spouse when her husband told her of his affiliation with the Army. She wouldn't trade his crazy life for anything. She dutifully supports Colonel Downing, including a yearlong hardship tour to Korea, a 15-month deployment to Iraq, and a 9-month deployment to Afghanistan. Will has now just finished out his 23+ year career at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, as a leader in the Mission Command Training Program while Amy helps her parents, Jim and Mary Buzzard, with their restaurant. Her key accomplishments include: Being a mother to three beautiful children, holding down the fort while Will is training or being deployed, being a friend to other military spouses, and ministering to fellow Army wives through her music.
